Hampson Architects is a Brighton-based practice with over 30 years of experience in residential architecture and development. We work with private homeowners, property developers and investors on projects ranging from individual new build homes to multi-unit residential schemes and commercial leisure developments.
We have submitted over 300 planning applications across more than 20 local planning authorities, including councils in Scotland and the Channel Islands, and have deep working knowledge of the planning policies that govern development in Brighton & Hove and across East and West Sussex.
Every project is led personally by Andy Parsons, ARB-registered architect and founder of the practice. You won't be passed between teams or handed to a junior, you get direct access to 30 years of experience from the first call to the final sign-off.

What we do
Planning Applications
We manage the full planning process — drawings, documents, submission, council liaison and negotiation. We work across all application types: full planning, householder, prior approval, Class MA permitted development, listed building consent and applications in conservation areas. We are experienced at pre-application engagement with officers and presenting to Design Review Panels.
Feasibility & Site Appraisal
Before you commit to a site or a design, we can tell you what is worth doing. We assess development capacity, planning constraints, massing options and commercial viability — giving you the information you need to make a good decision early.
Architectural Design
We design homes and buildings that are genuinely good to live in. Our private homes range from dramatic remodels of existing houses to new builds on fresh plots. Our development projects range from single house schemes to 200 apartment developments. In every case the design is led by how the building will actually be used.
Residential Development
We have extensive experience working with developers and investors on residential schemes in Brighton & Hove and across Sussex and the South East. We understand viability and planning risk — we won't take on a project unless we believe it stacks up, and we'll tell you early if it doesn't.
Commercial & Leisure
We are increasingly active in the commercial and leisure sector, working on padel facilities, sauna and wellness developments, and hospitality projects. We bring the same planning knowledge and design rigour to these projects as we do to residential work.
Post-Refusal & Appeals
If you've had a refusal, we can assess the reasons, advise on the most viable route forward and prepare revised drawings or a formal planning appeal.
Deep local knowledge of Brighton & Hove
We have been working in Brighton & Hove for over 25 years. That means we know the planning officers, the local policies, the conservation area sensitivities, and importantly which approaches work and which don't.
On Hill Brow in Hove alone we have designed four completed homes and have more in progress. In the Hove Park area we have delivered over 200 flats and designed 500 more. We have active projects across Brighton, Hove, Kemptown, Shoreham, Newhaven, Lewes and the wider East and West Sussex area.

Developer clients working on residential schemes in Brighton & Hove and across Sussex. We work from initial feasibility through to planning consent. We're particularly experienced in smaller to mid-scale residential development such as two-house plots up to apartment buildings of 10–20 homes but we have also completed schemes for 200+ homes.
Commercial & leisure operators
Operators and investors developing padel courts, sauna facilities, hospitality venues, community uses and other leisure uses. We handle the planning strategy and architectural design, and we understand the specific challenges these schemes present in planning and funding terms.
